IN LOVING MEMORY OF

GEORGE EVANS WOOD

Remembering George Evans Wood

George Wood passed away at home on January 9th, 2023 while his wife held his hand. He was born in Boulder Colorado, but grew up in Hutchinson, Kansas. There he married his high school sweetheart, Pattie Sue Murphy and together the two enjoyed over 51 years of marriage. The two of them had two children, Ashley Drussel 48 (married to Bob Drussel), and Jason Wood 46. Later, they would add Doneil Walters to their family as another adopted son. He is also survived by his grandson Austyn Moore and a great grandson Beau Henry. George, known affectionately as Joe, was an avid Chiefs fan and loved the RV life but at large an even bigger fan of helping people.

His kind spirit and soft touch made him the neighborhood dad to his son and daughter’s friends. To say he was kind is a gross understatement. Joe could be counted on by anyone at anytime for help or someone to talk to. It didn’t matter if you were family, a friend or a complete stranger, his helping hand was always extended to those in need.

The world was better with him in it but he has been called home. Joe spent decades in the auto transport industry where he won dozens of safe driver awards over the years. He took his profession seriously and it showed in his safety track record. Joe embodied what it meant to be a man of integrity and all that knew him could always count on his word. The most important thing in his life was his family; and it showed.

In addition to his wife and kids, he is also survived by by siblings, Ed Wood, Larry Wood, Sondra Wood, Dana Spahr, Dan Wood, Ginee Stiverson as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is being planned for a future date in Hutchinson, KS.
